Superhero Delivers Gifts to Children’s Ward
ACS is pleased to announce its charity of the year will be Doncaster Royal Infirmary’s Children’s Ward.
The senior management team of ACS has a special connection with the children’s ward after managing director Kevin McEwen’s son Calum was admitted for a kidney operation aged just two years old.
Kevin explains: “Just short of three years ago, my son Calum was admitted for an urgent kidney operation and as you can imagine it was an extremely worrying time, but the staff on the ward were amazing, they looked after us as well as Calum.
“We have always supported the local community but this is the first time we will be backing a charity – and we couldn’t think of a cause more worthy.”
Mike McEwen, director, confirmed he and his team will embark on many fundraising missions throughout 2014 including the Yorkshire Tough Mudder event in August but have launched this partnership by donating five iPad minis to the ward to enable children in their care to have a form of escapism from their health conditions and enjoy entertainment on the go.
When accepting the iPad mini’s, Icky Lall, Play and Activity Leader on the Children’s Ward (pictured – right), said: “We’re all so grateful for the donation of these iPads. We have similar devices already, but it will be great for each of the Play & Activity Leader’s to have one in their ‘activity bags’ when they are in different departments of the hospital.”
Lindsey Arthur (pictured – left) is also a Play & Activity Leader on the Children’s Ward, and commented: “The children on the ward, in our A&E and Outpatient departments love to have things like this that they can play with whilst waiting for and during their treatment, as they are a great distraction for them. I’d like to thank everyone at ACS for your generous donation.”
