Teacher Takes on Techno
ACS has backed Kingfisher Primary School Teacher Steve Lowe’s Sport Relief challenge where he has been tasked with completing sports competitions against pupils, businesses and colleagues (the rest of the world) in the run up to the nationally celebrated charity day.
His latest challenge saw him take on a 50 metre sprint against pupils and ‘Techno’ the ACS mascot!
Kevin McEwen, ACS managing director said: “We work with a wide selection of education providers across the region – one of them being Kingfisher Primary, of which we are their main IT provider.
“We also love to support the local community with sponsorship or charity initiatives, so we really wanted to back Steve in his mission to one, raise money for Sport Relief and two, for trying to raise participation in sports among his students.”
“It’s fair to say Mr Lowe and the pupils beat Techno, as the superhero was banned from using his superhero powers and had to run like a mere human!”
As part of the overarching challenge, Steve Lowe vowed to run 14 miles on the morning of Friday 21st of March and to get into school for 9am registration. To make it an even bigger challenge, for every competition he loses against the ‘rest of the world’ will add another mile to his tally.
So far the teacher has to run 20 miles after losing as many challenges. The maximum he has agreed to run is 30 miles meaning he would have to set off at 4.30am in the morning.
Steve said: “It’s the children that are the motivation behind this challenge. I want to inspire them to participate in sport by increasing their awareness of a diverse range of sporting activities. In addition, the funds that I raise will all be going to Sport Relief.”
He concludes: “Thank you to ACS for supporting my challenge and also to Techno for taking me on – it was such a good laugh, and means I have raised even more money for a really great cause.”
Steve still has a range of challenges still to come which include an army style boot camp and playing American Football.
